Fallout 76 changes a lot about how the series works, but the one that was most surprising for many players was how it shifted the leveling system to include new Perk Cards. These special cards unlock unique abilities and bonuses, such as earning extra XP or taking less damage from certain foes. Each can mean the difference between life or death, so they’re pretty key to becoming the best wanderer in the Appalachian wasteland. But where do they come from, and how can you get more of them? Here’s a quick guide on how to get Perk Packs and Perk Cards in Fallout 76.
At the time of Fallout 76’s release, there is only one way to get more Perk Cards and Perk Packs, which is to level up. At each level players can choose cards to purchase from each of their SPECIAL traits. Once bought this Perk Card is available at all times, though the player must assign it to their character using their SPECIAL points in order to activate it. Again, by leveling up, but you need to do it a few times. Players will receive a free Perk Pack at levels 4, 6, 8, and 10, followed by a new Perk Pack at every five new levels (so 15, 20, 25, and so on). Open the packs and you’ll get a set of new cards to use, though if they are locked to a level higher than you currently are, you will have to wait to activate it. Keep leveling up and you’ll keep earning Perk Packs and Perk Cards. Soon enough you’ll be able to take on any Scorched or Super Mutant in the Wasteland.
