A long-time Somerset County tradition wrapped up in the southern part of the county Friday.
National Pike Days was held in Addison Borough this week.
The event celebrates the national road and at one time even included covered wagons.
The Addison Volunteer Fire Department showed third graders from local schools some of their equipment, from the department's oldest apparatus, an 1890 chemical cart, to its newest piece of equipment: a newly acquired brush truck.
Addison Volunteer Firefighter Larry Jones said, “It gives them an idea of what firefighters do, a little bit of the historical side of it, and then we also spend a couple of minutes talking about fire safety, fire prevention, and getting the kids involved.”
Organizers said a car cruise is being held in the borough Saturday, and then Sunday the fire department said they are inviting the community to their annual chicken barbecue dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
